The Life Of A Writer

Looking back at my first writing assignment “Who am I” my writing has significantly improved. In the beginning I used a lot of description in my sentences, poems, paragraphs, and essays. However, no matter how descriptively vibrant my essays may have appeared they lacked organization and structure. Like a cake without layers it was a pretty mess. As the weeks went by and we the Writing 100 class wrote more and more in-class writing assignments, my writing structure improved. I learned to quickly organize my thoughts as I write my essays. I even began to construct diagrams to further help organize what I would write before I even wrote it.

The in-class writing assignments boosted my confidence as a writer and helped me smooth out a major flaw in my writing style. The essays for the writing class were complicated to get right at first.

I learned to organize my thoughts in short essays from the in-class writing essays. However I hadn’t applied it to an actual full length essay. The first essay I was a bit nervous to apply the concept I had learned.

I only half applied it. Although it worked out pretty well I was stagnating my growth as a writer and I knew I was. The only thing worse than not doing something, is not doing something and knowing that you didn’t do it.

That concept wrecked my mind like waves bowling over the titanic. I had to fully apply the concept no matter what the results were.

If I didn’t then I would never grow as a writer. Thus the second essay came and I actually completely forgot to organize the essay the way I said I would. I got lost in the details like usual; my overzealous of description overwhelmed my thoughts again. Once the second draft of our second essay came around I wrote a note to myself to properly organize my thoughts so that my essay so vibrantly shining with the light of description could have the coherency to be understood in the proper order. Even the students wrote feedback about being lost in the essay. Thus I organized my essay thoroughly when revising the second draft.
